Parent & Student Services News

The TRiO program as administered by the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit 5 has two separate divisions: Talent Search and Upward Bound Math and Science. TRiO is a federal outreach and student service program designed to help low income and first generation students see the benefits and possibilities of a post-secondary education. The program through mentoring, career exploration, college visits, and guidance and direction in the application and financial aid process, helps students enroll and be successful in obtaining a post-secondary education.

This themed competition focuses on exposing students to jobs, skills, and concepts centered around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. This year’s competition, “Improving Pennsylvania through STEM”, will feature teams of students from across the commonwealth challenged to research, present, and design a device or project that is capable of making the quality of life better for citizens of Pennsylvania.

This competition challenges teams of students in grades 4 through 8 to create an environmentally friendly people mover using K’NEX kits. Students will have an opportunity to demonstrate their inventions and present their models. Please e-mail studentprograms@iu5.org for more information.
