This year’s conference offers keynote sessions, seminar sessions, various breakouts, an Act 45 course and special evening events!

  • Welcome address and keynote featuring Secretary of Education, Dr. Khalid N. Mumin

  • Words of Wisdom from Dr. Brian Troop, PA Superintendent of the Year, and Dr. Tim Wagner, PA Principal of the Year

  • Keynote speaker, Ron Clark, founder of the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia

  • Keynote speaker, Chase Mielke, award-winning educator, writer, and speaker focusing on preventing teacher burnout and increasing student engagement

  • Targeted seminar sessions designed to understand, investigate, and explore critical topics in today’s educational landscape

  • Over 130 breakout sessions examining strategies to encourage student achievement, develop staff excellence, and tackle the tough topics in the present educational climate

  • An Act 45 course focusing on and applying leadership principles to meet the known challenges of today and prepare for the unexpected challenges of tomorrow

  • Sponsored events each evening to provide fun, food, and relaxation including yoga, paint away, cornhole, and an evening at the Englewood.

 

Registration is $150 for all three days of the Institute, which includes a hot breakfast buffet and lunch each day.

Monday

Dr. Khalid Mumin, PA Secretary of Education

For over 25 years, Dr. Khalid N. Mumin has served in various capacities as a teacher, dean of students, principal, and central administrator. Most recently, Dr. Mumin served as the Superintendent of Schools at Lower Merion School District. Prior to Lower Merion, Dr. Mumin was the Superintendent of Reading School District for seven years. Dr. Mumin is committed to promoting and sustaining student achievement, equity, and access to educational programming for all students, as well as creating plans that are fiscally responsible.

PA 2023 Superintendent of the Year

Upper St. Clair High School
PA 2023 Principal of the Year

For over 29 years, Dr. Troop has served in various capacities as a teacher, principal, Intermediate Unit program director, and since 2010 has been the superintendent in the district. His innovative thinking, collaborative leadership, and drive to succeed have improved communication in the district, elevated student performance, and led to the launch of several community-connected initiatives including the Life Ready Graduate and Cornerstone Projects.

Dr. Wagner has served as an elementary and middle school teacher, gifted education coordinator, curriculum leader, and associate high school principal before becoming the high school principal in 2019.  Dr. Wagner’s humility and philosophical beliefs around collective decision-making help to make Upper St. Clair High School a special place to teach and learn. Every aspect of the school culture is modeled around genuine partnerships with students, teachers, parents, and community.

Ron Clark

Ronald Lyle Clark, Jr. has taught in North Carolina and New York City; in 2007, he founded the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. The Ron Clark Academy is a model school with a vision to transform classrooms around the world by demonstrating transformative methods and techniques that are embraced and replicated everywhere.  Ron’s leadership is characterized by high energy and an outside-the-box approach to teaching low-income and other at-risk students.

Chase Mielke

Chase Mielke is an award-winning educator, writer, and speaker focusing on preventing teacher burnout and increasing student engagement.  He has been awarded for his work minimizing the achievement gap.  His Positive Psychology program teaches concepts of positive emotion, engagement, meaning, and accomplishment to hundreds of students each year, especially at-risk high schoolers. As an engaging speaker, he speaks with students and educators on topics of resilience, mindset, applied neuroscience, and positive psychology.

Each seminar will be led by an expert in the field with guest speakers and/or LEAs/educators who have successfully navigated the initiative. Seminars are 2.5 hour programs designed to understand, investigate, and explore critical topics. The goal of a seminar is to enrich participants’ knowledge and offer strategies to incorporate into their respective venues.
