 Welcome to JETS!

General Information
Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) Tests of Engineering, Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science (TEAMS) Competition is for high school students in grades 9 through 12.  TEAMS is an interscholastic competition that provides a challenge to prepare students for tomorrow’s world today.  The TEAMS program encourages team cooperation and group effort, cooperative learning strategy, higher-order thinking, academic rigor, application of knowledge, and leadership and management skills.  The program is offered as a one-day, two-part exam.  All teams will participate in both Part 1 and Part 2.  Part 1 results will determine local and state rankings; Part 2 will determine national rankings.  This year's theme is Water, Water, Everywhere!

Each high school may send any number of teams consisting of four to eight members.  There are no longer varsity/junior varsity divisions; instead, students will be competing in grade levels 11/12 and 9/10.  Students in grade 9 and/or 10 may compete at the 11/12 grade level, but will be graded as such.  Students in grades 11 and/or 12 are not permitted to compete at the 9/10 grade level.

Local first, second, and third place will be presented to the highest ranking competition level teams from participating small, medium, and large high schools.  At the state and national level varsity and junior varsity teams will compete in one of nine divisions, based on the size of the senior class and admissions criteria.  JETS will recognize top varsity and junior varsity teams in each division in Pennsylvania and in the nation.

The contact person for each school is expected to act as a coach in helping the team to prepare and to accompany the team to the competition.  JETS teams work in an open-book, open-discussion atmosphere to solve problems related to engineering, technology, mathematics, and science.  The charge will be $300 for varsity and $240 for junior varsity.  JETS requires payment upon registration (they will bill your school, if specified); those schools who register before October 31, 2009 will receive a 10% discount off of the JETS/TEAMS costs only.  Cost is based on the actual expenses.  The 2010 competition is scheduled to be held at McLane Church in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, March 9, 2010.
