 Mission

It is our intent to open a window of opportunity for our students by providing an elementary Spanish program based on communication, culture, communities, connections, and comparisions.  Our students will become global citizens and develop critical thinking skills as a result of studying a foreign language.  We will offer a sequential, content-based program which involves students, parents, teachers, and the community.

 General Information

E-FLAP Program Description
The Elementary Foreign Language Assistance Program (E-FLAP) is a three year federal grant that was awarded to the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit to coordinate the implementation of elementary Spanish into local school districts.

Espanol Para Ti
Espanol Para Ti is the program chosen by district teachers for the E-FLAP grant.  It is a program that was developed to teach the language and the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.  Teachers do not have to speak Spanish to use this program successfully. The program offers support so that teachers can learn with the students.

The program is presented through the use of videos that are fun and exciting. Kits are provided to facilitate instruction. The kits include:

  • Videocassettes which serve as the core of instruction
  • Teacher’s Manual
  • Teacher’s Resource Book
  • Activity cassettes for listening and speaking
  • Song cassettes
A visual package is available which includes:
  • Hand puppets
  • Flashcards
  • Posters

FLES*
Foreign Language in the Elementary Schools (FLES*) is the sequencial approach that will be used in our program.
